Build & Ship It Yourself

Understand how software actually works, answer your own data questions, write a spec an engineer does not have to rewrite, and put a real product on a real URL without waiting for anyone.

Still Sona. Engineering is booked for two quarters and you have a problem nobody will schedule. So you stop being the person who asks for things. You learn the machine well enough to argue with it, you build the thing yourself, you put it on the internet, and you let ten real users make the argument for you.

The Sona product floor: dashboards on one wall, a whiteboard covered in boxes and arrows on the other.
Sona, week one of the quarter. The roadmap is full and your problem is not on it.
Who this is for

You have never written code, or you wrote some once and have no idea how any of it connects. You are tired of being the person in the room who cannot check anything.

By the end

What you will be able to do.

Explain how a request travels from a browser to a database and back, and name where the time went

Read a schema, write the queries that answer most product questions, and know why your number disagrees with finance

Write a spec, a ticket and acceptance criteria that an engineer does not have to rewrite

Build and deploy a working product to a live URL with AI tooling, and instrument it before you share it

Recruit the first ten real users, read what they actually did, and say honestly why the date slipped

Capstone

The thing you shipped

A working product, live on a public URL, that solves one real problem for a real person who is not you. Instrumented before launch, with a tracking plan where every event answers a written question. Ten real users recruited by hand, and a readout of what they actually did rather than what they said.

What you ship
  • A live URL on a real domain that a stranger can open and finish the job on
  • The repo, with a README that explains the architecture in plain language and a tracking plan
  • A week one readout: ten real users, what each did, where they dropped, and the two things you changed because of it
The badge

Finishing every lesson unlocks Level 05 straight away, free. The Builder badge itself is reviewed by a practising product manager and is part of the one time community fee.
